Become a Program Coordinator

American Discovery is a small, local student exchange program based in Bend, OR (but we also run programs in California!) that has been providing amazing opportunities for high school teenagers from France & Spain for 30 years. We have strong local ties to many communities around Oregon and the greater Sacramento area, CA. We work with volunteer host families that open their homes to a foreign student for just a couple of weeks during the summer in order to foster lifelong friendships and support cultural exchange.

We are currently seeking well-connected, local individuals to be program coordinators for one of our programs for our upcoming 2024 summer season.

This position is a perfect fit for someone with some extra time, looking to connect with the local community in a positive and uplifting way, and experience the lasting connections that a cultural exchange provides. We often work with teachers, youth group leaders, or excited individuals looking for an interesting, flexible job. We are looking for someone who is excited to become a part of our growing team--one that has been creating connections for over 30 years.

What You Need To Know

JOB DETAILS INCLUDE:

  • generating a potential host family leads via presentations in local schools, churches, clubs/organizations, community outreach, etc.
  • completing home visits to determine a good fit for our foreign students
  • preparing the program itinerary, make needed reservations, and submit all information to the A.D.office -fully managing the assigned program, which includes meeting and accompanying students upon arrival, on day trips and activities (if any), as well as attending and organizing program parties (depending on type of program);
  • supervising the program and resolving any problems as they occur
  • acting as a liaison between host families and our local office
